Award of CASTIC2010!

The project Exploration of astronomical measurements in high schools has just gained the first award in CASTIC2010! In addition, we won the Zhou Pei-yuan Fondation’s Adolesents Science & Technology Innovation Award.

This is the second CASTIC award our observatory gains. The previous one is about the site selection of 2009 total eclipse gained in 2008.

LT02 (Chip Respond Test for Canon EOS 450D — High Intensity)

In the experiment LT01, we did a respond test for the CMOS chip of Canon 450D. But the LED we used as a light source scattered too much. Now we improved the test method, and did a higher intensity test.

It’s strange that most long-exposure images’s maximum ADU is 15848. There’re only two exceptive images, the maximum ADU are 15849 and 16088. But these two images’ exposure time are not the longest in the experiment.

The  Aprture, Gap, Annulus in MaxIm are 20, 16, 5 (pixels).

The Administration Standard released

It’s one of the technical documents in Hanggao Observatory. We hope the observers in the observatory can obey this standard, then improve it as well.

Now the platform is still based on WordPress as a weblog. Looking forward to the day when our platform becomes a more efficient, powerful and intelligent site!

This is an additional experiment in order to calculate out the angular speed of the earth’s rotation.

Update

The old analysing didn’t consider the earth’s revolution. Now the new analysing have corrected this error. The Analysing Files downloaded after 2010/07/30 don’t have this problem.

LT01 (Chip Respond Test for Canon EOS 450D)

This is a test to confirm whether the CMOS chip on the Digital Camera can respond linearly. This basic test can help us verify whether the photometry result taken by CMOS-based camera is believable.

The figure following can show the relationship between expose time (X axis) and total ADU (Y axis).

New! Free Softwares for data reading problems

If you are not doing researches on astronomy, maybe you do not have softwares to open the data. Now we have added a list of free softwares for temporary previewing for you. Just see the “About the data’s format” page and you can find them. You can download some of them directly from our site very easily.

Remember, all the softwares we provide are FREE, but some are only for previewing. If you want to analyse the data maybe you should search for other stronger softwares that suit you more.
